NEW RELEASES?
I’m running a little behind schedule today, for the new release playlist and other things. Friday night, my H-P/Compaq Presario notebook computer*, barely over a year old, died. It was also barely out of warranty.
The motherboard is fried, and the data on the hard drive is not recoverable. Accordingly, I have been spending the weekend reinstalling the programs I can on the new notebook PC that I bought Saturday morning.
Reinstalling programs is being a challenge also. The new computer came with Windows Vista 64; the dead one had Vista 32. You know where I’m going with this, don’t you. I have not been able to install several programs because they are not compatible with the 64 bit version of Vista.
The only good thing is that by making the purchase now, I am eligible for a free upgrade to Windows 7 when it’s available.
All of which is a long-winded way of saying, it’s going to be a while before I get last night’s new releases posted here and at http://www.myspace.com/saturdaynightjazz. [April 2014 NOTE: I deleted the MySpace account some time ago.)
One important note: OPB has not been given access to the domain kmhd.fm, so for the foreseeable future head on over to kmhd.org to see the station’s web site. It’s been completely re-designed and looks great! If you like to catch our stream, there is now a tool in the middle of the front page that tells you what show is playing, with a “listen now” link directly below. It couldn’t be any easier!
SATURDAY NIGHT JAZZ
I almost always enjoy doing this show, even when things don’t go well. Last night was no exception. Last night was also the final broadast of Saturday Night Jazz to originate from the MCR (Master Control Room) on the campus of Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham. As of 2:00 PM on Monday, August 10, we will begin broadcasting from our brand new studio located at Oregon Public Broadcasting in southwest Portland.
It was a great show, and I do believe that I did not play a single “clunker” all night. I hope you agree!
I was at the new studio today for a little more practice with the new equipment. Thanks to Raoul from OPB, I think the first show I do from the new studio, on August 15, is going to go well. Thanks, Raoul!
I had my digital camera with me, and later this week I will be posting some of the photos I took of the new digs. Its pretty impressive!
In the time it’s taken me to write all this, I probably could have posted the new releases. Sorry. If you are especially eager to know what a song was, send me an email to saturdaynightjazz at yahoo dot com. Let me know the approximate time the song played, and I’ll see what I can come up with for you.
Thanks for your patience, and thanks for supporting KMHD and Saturday Night Jazz!

*NOTE: This was the second Hewlett Packard computer I’ve owned. It will be the last. The first one was an even worse piece of junk. Fool me once, shame on them. Fool me twice, shame on me. There won’t be a third time.
