As the old year draws to a close and a new one begins, we have much to be grateful for and much cause for sorrow. In 2007 we said goodbye to Michael Brecker in January and Oscar Petersen in December, and in between numerous other musical greats (James Brown, for one) took their final bows.
However, as important as it is to remember those who have passed on, there is no future if you spend so much time in the past that you forget about the here and now. And that is why during 2008, Saturday Night Jazz will continue to honor those jazz greats who are, and those who are not, still with us, as well as prominently presenting the best of current New Releases. It all adds up to a pair of speakers full of great JAZZ (and yes, a little blues too) from the beginning of each show right up to the end.
March of 2008 will be my 6th Anniversary as host of Saturday Night Jazz, and to say it has been a labor of love would be an understatement. I want to thank each and every one of you for your support (financial or otherwise) and especially for continuing to listen to KMHD, 89.1 FM.
Some Thankyou’s
No person is more special than any other, so they say, but a few listeners stand out in my mind for special appreciation… In no particular order other than as the names come to me: Art, Pete and Trudy, Ric and Jan, Don, Bob, Nancy, Jere, Dave, Paula, Tom, Barb, Tim, Scott, another Tom, Stephen, an unknown professional trumpet player and an unknown bass player. As corny as it may sound, I also want to thank my most loyal listener, my Mom. Thanks Mom!
Last but not least, my very grateful thanks to Georgia Ray for filling in for me December 29 while I was under doctor’s orders to take it easy for a few days.
THANK YOU, and my very best wishes for a wonderful, healthful New Year to one and all, filled with happiness and PEACE.
