Last night’s show was the final episode of “Saturday Night Jazz”. That’s the bad news. After 8 1/2 years in the 6-9 PM time slot, (or close enough), the powers that be have decided that Saturday night needs a new sound.
The good news is, beginning next Saturday, July 3, “Saturday Night Jazz” will be replaced by “The Gold Standard“, a new show on Jazz Radio KMHD devoted to exploring the music of the new “Golden Age Of Jazz”, the 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s. I am happy to report that the new program will be hosted by none other than yours truly. 🙂
Click here (or the link above) to go to he new blog that I’ve created to support the new program. I’m not sure just what kind of things I’ll be posting there, but when I began this blog I was in that same boat. Things worked out, as they generally do.
I want to thank everyone who supported “Saturday Night Jazz” all these years and helped make it the resounding success it was, right up until the end. I can’t tell you how happy it has made me feel to know  that the music I played every Saturday night touched so many people and brought them so much pleasure.
“The Gold Standard” will be different, but will also be the same in some respects. Much of the music I played on “Saturday Night Jazz” was bop or hard bop. “The Gold Standard” will explore all of the various genres within jazz, including bop. The big difference will be the time period covered: Gone will be the newer (and brand new) releases. In their place will be “tied-and-true” classics… and maybe a few not so tried-and-true classics. 😉
For the time being, my email address will remain the same. If and when I decide to change it there will be an announcement here and on the air.
Please join me next Saturday at 7 PM pacific time, right after Art Abrams “Jukebox Saturday Night.”
THANK YOU!

  1. As of today, I will no longer be updating the blog I created for "The Gold Standard". Nor will I be checking it for comments. If you have something to say to me, either say it here or don't bother. ;-)Al Evans
